We recommend that our clients bring the following:

  • We highly recommend that you take a mild motion sickness medicine 30 minutes prior to departure - if you are unsure of your tollerance to hours of ocean movement and/or if you have any history of motion sickness on land or at sea. These are over-the-counter and available without a prescription. PLEASE NOTE: these medications are preventative. Which means they are generally not effective if taken after the onset of sea sickness.

We provide beverages, food & snacks, dry storage bags to protect your items from water, and of course first aid and safety equipment. 

Yes. Fishing licenses are a government requirement for each person fishing in Costa Rica. Fishing licenses are issued by INCOPESCA, the Costa Rican Institue of Fisheries and Agriculture. Obtaining a fishing license is done online with secure payment via credit or debit card, and the forms are available in both English and Spanish. You will have the option to purchase a license that is valid for a period of 1-8 days, 30 days, or 1 year.

Once completed, you will be prompted download the digital copy to your phone. We will communicate with you prior to your scheduled fishing charter with helpful tips to make the process fast and easy and to answer any questions you may have. 

NOTE:  Prior to boarding the boat, you will be asked by the Captain or Staff Member of Amberjack Tours to show proof your valid license.

1. Life Jackets: Life jackets are available for all passengers aboard the boat.

2. Safety Briefing: We conduct a thorough safety briefing before departure, covering emergency procedures, the location of safety equipment, and any specific safety guidelines or regulations.

3. Qualified Crew: We only employ experienced and skilled captains, guides, and crew members who are certified and knowledgeable in boating safety, CPR, and first aid. They are capable of handling emergency situations and ensuring passenger safety.

4. Proper Maintenance: Our boat is regularly inspect and maintained, including safety equipment, navigation systems, and essential machinery, to ensure they are all functioning properly.

5. Weather Monitoring: We keep a close eye on weather conditions before and during the fishing trip. If adverse weather is expected, we will discuss with you modifying the trip to ensure passenger safety.

6. Communication Equipment: Each boat is equipped with reliable communication devices, such as VHF marine radios or satellite phones, to maintain contact with onshore facilities or the appropriate authorities if needed.

7. First Aid Kit: We have fully stocked and readily accessible first aid kits on board to handle minor injuries or medical emergencies.

8. Fire Safety: We implement proper fire safety measures, including fire extinguishers and regular fire drills for crew members.

9. Navigation and Local Laws: Amberjack Tours complies with navigation regulations, including proper lighting, and always respecting no-fishing zones or protected areas. We guarantee that our crew is updated on local fishing laws and regulations.
